DEFINITION

Performs advanced coordinating and facilitating of promotional work in the Department of Economic Development; performs related work as required.

WORK EXAMPLES

Communicates with agency staff, other governmental and private agencies, business, news media, and the public, as a spokesperson for the supervisor in matters involving controversial and sensitive agency program issues.

Collects, analyzes, correlates and presents data and information to promote economic development in a major functional area, such as Tourism, International, Community Progress, Industry, and Public Relations.

Represents the Department of Economic Development in conferences and meetings with private groups and with governmental agencies to initiate and maintain cooperative programs and activities.

Serves as a team leader, coordinating support from other state agencies, the private sector and other resource groups.

Promotes local awareness of agency's programs, services, and economic incentives to the private and public organizations within the state.

Coordinates special projects such as work performed by consultants and interagency agreements entered into by the agency.

Drafts correspondence and other written narrative for the supervisor in response to non-routine program inquiries which often involve Economic Development issues.

Knowledge of the economic resources, industrial facilities and operations of Iowa.

Ability to organize and carry out broad promotional projects and activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in research, planning, economics, public relations, business, journalism, or marketing and experience equal to two years of full-time work that involved responsibility for interpreting laws, rules and regulations, and/or securing compliance with them or compiling and evaluating historical, economic, business, financial programs or program data;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the above specialized experience for each year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education.

 

NOTE:

Employees will be required to travel.  Some positions may require employees to furnish their own means of transportation in order to conduct state business.
