CAPITOL GUIDE

 

DEFINITION

Under general direction, provides information and assistance to tourists and other visitors to the State Capitol building; performs related work as required.

 

The Work Examples and Competencies listed are for illustrative purposes only and not intended to be the primary basis for position classification decisions.

 

WORK EXAMPLES

Meets visitors to the Capitol building in order to answer questions concerning the Capitol and other public buildings by utilizing written information and knowledge previously learned.

Provides lectures in order to indicate the size, value and history of the Capitol building by using a prepared text previously learned.

Directs individuals to state offices or officials in order to help them perform their business by leading them or providing verbal directions.

Arranges and conducts tours through the Capitol building to explain the functions and operations of various departments.

Trains part-time guides in order to provide extra help during the summer tourist season and legislative sessions when visitors are more numerous.

Assists supervisors by instructing employees, answering questions and distributing, balancing and checking work; may make suggestions on appointments, promotions, performance and reassignments.

Knowledge of the state governmental process.

Knowledge of the locations and functions of the various state governmental offices.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Two years of sales or related work experience involving public contact;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state service that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time experience as a Capitol Guide Aide shall be considered as qualifying.
