CORRECTIONAL SECURITY DIRECTOR
Manages an inmate security program in an
adult correctional institution; performs related work as required.

WORK EXAMPLES
Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinates;
recommends personnel actions related to selection, disciplinary procedures,
performance, leaves, grievances, work schedules and assignments; administers
personnel policies and procedures.
Formulates security policies and regulations; issues
operational memos/directives and assists with formulation of in-service
training programs; makes recommendations to the parole board.
Directs/coordinates the movements, housing, counts,
and discipline of inmates; interviews inmates and conducts investigations,
hearings and reviews; serves as member of classification, diagnostic and
adjustment committees.
Makes periodic inspection of entire facility and
observes the operations of various departments; checks for compliance with
safety and sanitation rules/regulations.
Maintains various administrative records/reports and
compiles/analyzes data regarding inmate placement and movement inside/outside
of the institution.
Attends staff conferences and professional
seminars as required.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of a
security and rehabilitation program in a correctional institution.
Knowledge of the principles of organization,
supervision and administration.
Knowledge of the principles and practices in the field
of modern penal administration and criminology.
Knowledge of current literature in the field of modern
penology.
Ability to plan, organize, control and effectively
supervise the work of subordinates.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
Experience equal to eight-years’ full-time work in a
juvenile or adult community/institutional corrections or jail security program,
three-years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity;
OR
an
equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester
hours of accredited post high school education for each year of the
non-supervisory experience to a maximum of five-years;
OR
employees
with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that
includes experiences equal to twelve months as a Correctional Security Manager,
twelve months as a Treatment Services Director, eighteen months as a
Correctional Supervisor 2 or thirty-six months as a Correctional Supervisor 1.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
May require satisfactory completion of:

psychological
tests;
·
a background
investigation check;
·
a health screen
administered by an institutional physician;
·
a urinalysis
screen for drugs.
