CORRECTIONAL SECURITY MANAGER
Assists the program director with management of a
security program for inmates in an adult correctional institution; performs
related work as required.

WORK EXAMPLES
Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinates;
recommends personnel actions related to selection, disciplinary procedures,
performance, leaves, grievances, work schedules and assignments; administers
personnel policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains shift assignments, post
assignments, and vacation schedules for uniformed correctional officer
personnel; maintains time and attendance record and prepares payroll data for
uniformed personnel.
Participates as a member of the classification,
adjustment, and disciplinary committees and assists with investigations of
infractions of institutional rules.
Conducts periodic inspections of institutional
facilities; checks safety/sanitation, evaluates performance of inmates assigned
to these areas and interviews inmates regarding work assignments.
Interviews applicants for correctional officer
positions and conducts orientation sessions for new employees; counsel/advises
subordinate officers on problems and prepares employee performance evaluation
reports.
Attends staff conferences and committee
meetings; compiles data and writes and reviews reports; maintains various
administrative records as required.
COMPENTENCIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of the basic principles of supervision and
administration.
Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of a
security and rehabilitation program in a correctional institution.
Knowledge of the principles and practices in the field
of penology and criminology.
Knowledge of current literature in the field of
correctional administration.
Ability to plan and direct the work of a group of
supervisory correctional officers.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience equal to two-years’ full-time supervisory
work in a juvenile or adult community/institutional corrections or jail
security program;
OR
employees
with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes
experience equal to twelve months as a Correctional Supervisor 2 or twenty-four
months as a Correctional Supervisor 1.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
May require satisfactory completion of:

psychological
tests;
·
a background
investigation check;
·
a health screen
administered by an institutional physician;
·
a urinalysis
screen for drugs.
