MICROFILM OPERATOR 2
DEFINITION
Determines various procedures and techniques to use
when operating microfilm photocopy, storage, and retrieval equipment of significant
value and complexity; performs related work as required.

WORK EXAMPLES
Assists
supervisor by performing such duties as instructing employees, answering
questions, distributing and balancing the workload, and checking work; may make
suggestions on selection, promotions and reassignments.
Participates in microfilming a variety of public
documents and archives.
Establishes work priorities and sequence in which the
workload is to be handled.
Performs such maintenance on the equipment as
required.
Inspects records prior to filming, and verifies the
working condition of the camera and other equipment.
Establishes and maintains necessary files, records,
catalogs, and indexes for the safe storage of microfilm and files film.
Sets up independently, and operates various types of
complex microfilm equipment; inspects documents to be microfilmed; determines
machine setup to produce quality reproductions; adjusts machine accordingly;
inserts documents into machine; reads developed film for quality control.
Develops, processes and inserts finished films in
acetate jackets and maintains development equipment.
Operates proofing machine to inspect microfilms;
checks against original document to insure proper reproductions.
Checks developed film through a viewer for proper
sequence, clarity and legibility.
Loads and unloads film in the microfilm camera;
adjusts light intensity and focus of the camera; cleans and makes minor
adjustments and repairs to microfilm cameras and viewers.
Retrieves microfilmed documents for enlargement upon
request from the department or public at large.
Performs
incidental typing tasks not requiring use of the touch system, or where
accuracy rather than speed is essential.

Knowledge of
microfilming procedures and practices.
Knowledge of the methods of maintaining microfilm
files and records.
Knowledge of various microfilm photocopy, storage, and
retrieval equipment.
Knowledge of the general practices applied to the care
and safe operation of assigned equipment.
Ability to plan, coordinate and oversee the work of
subordinates.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
Experience equal to two years of full-time paid
clerical office or closely related work, one year of which must have involved
microfilm operations work;
OR
graduation
from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and experience equal to one year of full
time qualifying microfilm operation work;
OR
satisfactory
completion of a recognized job-related training course at the high school or
equivalent level (MDTA, CEP, WIN, etc.) for one year only of the clerical
office qualifying experience to a maximum substitution of one year;
OR
satisfactory
completion of post high school course work in an accredited program of
secretarial, business or closely related curriculum may be substituted for the
required clerical office experience on the basis that one month of concentrated
education is equivalent to two months of experience to a maximum substitution
of twelve months;
OR
satisfactory
completion of thirty semester or equivalent hours of undergraduate college
level course work may be substituted for one year of clerical office experience
to a maximum substitution of one year;
OR
Employees
with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that
includes experience equal to nine months of full-time work as a Microfilm
Operator 1.
