RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

 

DEFINITION

Performs a variety of information gathering and dissemination processes in the Department of Education or College Student Aid Commission; performs related work as required.

WORK EXAMPLES

Evaluates requests for on-line computer searches for a variety of recipients and involving a variety of topics.

Determines search parameters, costs, time involved, identifies databases to be searched and conducts the on-line search.

Completes special projects related to information retrieval such as compiling and maintaining database books, revising the source journal index and updating special files on high interest education topics.

Conducts workshops for teachers, librarians and area education Agency staff regarding on-line bibliographic search processes and procedures.

 

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of standard and changing practices, problems, terminology and issues in education.

Knowledge of Boolean logic as it applies to on-line searches.

Knowledge of operational practices and procedures for on-line searching and/or electronic mail.

Knowledge of reference materials other than on-line databases.

Ability to develop instructional units and materials used for workshop training sessions.

Ability to make presentations to large groups.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in Information Technology (IT) performing on-line search projects.

 

NOTE:

Travel throughout the state may be required.
