This series includes positions that provide consultation or a work-product in a specific area of expertise in the determination of Social Security disability claims. Federal regulations and rules require the participation of certain experts in the determination process, e.g., physicians, clinical psychologists, and speech and language pathologists. Other experts are not required, but they are not prohibited and they could be required in the future. The work involves: review of medical evidence including psychological testing and speech and language testing, assessment of the severity of medical conditions and their affects on function; consultation with treating sources and examining sources to obtain or clarify evidence; consultation with disability examiners about medical issues in individual cases; participation in training of disability examiners.
Positions
performing direct patient care in the practice of medicine, psychology, or
speech and language pathology.
Positions
performing work in programs other than disability programs administered by the
Social Security Administration.
Positions
at this level must have a master’s degree or equivalent in speech/language
pathology and be licensed to practice speech/language pathology in Iowa.
Positions
at this level must have a doctorate degree in psychology and be licensed to
practice clinical psychology in Iowa.
Positions
at this level must have an M.D. or D.O. degree and be licensed to practice
medicine in Iowa.
