BUSINESS MARKETING SPECIALIST,
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Employees in this classification develop
relationships with local businesses, agencies and economic groups to recruit
business customers to utilize Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) products and services and work with employers,
community leaders and the news media within the region in consultation with the
IWD Communications Director. Many times
the employee will be in meetings with representatives from the above and will
be required to respond to requests for services requiring decisions as to
resources of not only time but also of money.
The decisions that are made will require creativeness, alternatives, and
accountability on the part of the specialist.
These decisions could affect the quality of IWD services. These employees must promote/market the services of this agency
whether it be a job fair to attract applicants; assistance in the evaluation of
referrals; functioning as a link between the employer and the rest of the IWD,
such as workers comp issues, IOSHA, AA, and many other resources. The employee will work closely with local
economic development planners to assist new and expanding businesses in meeting
staffing needs.
Employees in this classification will become experts
in and knowledgeable of all the services IWD provides, determines what can be
provided to the community and the best method of delivering the services. Supervision received is primarily in the
overall objectives and resources available.
Basically, this employee notifies the supervisor of potentially
controversial matters that would affect IWD or our partners. Together they develop the deadlines and work
to be done. The supervisor will
periodically check for progress and conformance to established policies and
requirements. This employee will
determine the approach to take as it will vary from one employer to another and
from newspaper and TV/radio ads. The
Business Marketing Specialist will be responsible for the marketing of IWD
services for the entire region.
Business Marketing Representatives must have
excellent communication skills. They
will be working with the press, TV, and radio media by coordinating with IWD’s
Communications Director. They will
provide advice, guidance and counsel employers based upon a number of factors
and programs. For example, by using our
labor market information staff, they can conduct surveys or predict specific
information regarding shortage of people for vacancies. The primary focus of this position is to be
out of the office, meeting our customers and establishing a relationship.
