SERIES CONCEPT

 

This series includes all positions involving work that requires full professional education and training in the field of chemistry.  This work includes the investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, molecular structures, and properties of substances, the transformation which they undergo, and the amounts of matter and energy included in these transformations.

 

EXCLUSIONS

 

Positions whose primary functions are not involved with chemistry.

 

CLASS DISTINCTIONS

 

Chemist

 

Functions at a trainee and journey level in professional scientific laboratory work performing chemical analysis on a variety of items, i.e., foodstuffs, pesticides, fertilizations, feeds, highway materials, etc.

 

Chemist Supervisor

 

This is the supervisory level over chemists and laboratory assistants in a state chemical laboratory.
