The concept of this class is to perform tasks related
to the installation, repair, and maintenance of primary and secondary
electrical distribution facilities, including high tension lines and interior
building wiring, and the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment
in a state facility.

1.

Positions that do not perform skilled electrical
work at the journey level. |
|
2.
|
Positions that perform unskilled or semi-skilled
electrical tasks and related duties should be classified in the Trades
Helper, Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Leader, or similar class. |
|
3.
|
Positions that diagnose, repair, and install
electronic devices (e.g., audio-visual, communications, and bio-medical
equipment) should be classified in the Electronics Technician or
Communications Technician Series. |

4.
|
Positions that perform journey-level trades work in
one or more established building and mechanical trades should be classified
in the Maintenance Repairer or Correctional Trades Leader Series. |
|
5.
|
Positions that operate, maintain, and repair steam
generating boilers/auxiliary, centralized air-conditioning (e.g., a
facility-wide steam absorption unit), and electrical power generating systems
should be classified in the Power Plant Engineer Series. |

6.
|
Positions that perform skilled mechanical and
electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of
air-conditioning and refrigeration systems should be classified in the
Air-Conditioning Mechanic Series. |
No longer applicable.
Electricians who are also assigned leadwork duties no longer have a separate
class. Such incumbents are eligible to
receive leadwork special pay.
Note: Certain
positions assigned to the Department of Corrections, coded 88326, are eligible
for IPERS early retirement provisions on the basis of the duties assigned. Such positions have on-going direct inmate
contact, to enforce and maintain discipline, safety, and security within a
correctional facility.
