Positions in this series lead or supervise
professional environmental work or develop and draft program concepts, rules
and policies for a state program in areas of air quality, water quality, water
supply, animal feeding operations, integrated solid waste management, chemical
technology, hazardous waste technology, underground storage tanks program,
biological/environmental management or geological and natural science;
employees perform work in sanitation evaluation/regulation relating to food
service processing and storage; cosmetology and barber shops, and lodging
establishments.
Non-supervisory positions performing
professional work primarily in areas of radiological health should be
classified in the Health Physicist Series.
Positions in this class, perform
professional work in an environmental control program (e.g., air quality, water
quality, water supply, animal feeding operations, integrated solid waste
management, chemical technology, hazardous waste technology, a biological/environmental
management program) or perform work in sanitation evaluation and regulation
relating to food service, processing and storage; cosmetology and barber shops,
and lodging establishments. Assignments
include inspections and evaluations ranging from simple to highly technical to
complex.
Positions in this class, develop and
draft program concepts, rules and policies for a state program, or perform
leadwork duties for a specific statewide or regional program area. Employees review inspection reports/permits
and collaborate with the supervisor.
Assignments include, performance of the most complex/sensitive
inspections, evaluations, or reviews/inspections, in environmental control
program areas (e.g., air quality, water quality, water supply, animal feeding
operations, integrated solid waste management, chemical technology, hazardous
waste technology, a biological/environmental management program). Positions identify/coordinate the
institutionalization of integrated solid waste management principles into state
programs/partnerships, coordinate integrated solid waste management evaluations
at major industrial manufacturing facilities, or coordinate
planning/implementation of a statewide biological environmental management
program.
Environmental Program Supervisor
Positions in this class plan, manage
and supervise the development, implementation and maintenance of an
environmental/radiological control or health protection program. Employees
supervise Environmental Specialists, Environmental Engineers. Health
Physicists, Geologists and other staff in conducting environmental control
activities.
