SERIES CONCEPT

 

Classes in this series are involved with the serving of food, preparing food and the cleaning of the dining facilities, kitchens and utensils in a state institution.

 

EXCLUSIONS

 

Positions that perform skilled cooking, baking or have as a primary responsibility the weighing and measuring of ingredients used in volume cooking and baking operations.  Such positions would be classified in the Cook series, Baker series or Ingredient Room Worker series.  Positions that have as a primary responsibility, the direct oversight of correctional inmates involved the preparation and serving of meals.  Positions performing this type work should be classified as a Corrections Food Service Coordinator.

 

CLASS DISTINCTIONS

 

Food Service Worker

 

Positions at this level perform a variety of duties related to the serving of food and the cleaning of the dining room, kitchen and equipment, tools and utensils used in the preparation, serving and consumption of food.  Some positions may perform some short order cooking or assisting cooks, bakers or ingredient room workers with their tasks.  A few positions may provide functional assistance to institutional residents in food service on routine matters.

 

Food Service Leader

 

Positions at this level are leadworkers of Food Service Workers and institutional residents that are assisting food service personnel. Other duties performed by positions classified at this level are very similar to the work performed by Food Service Workers.

 

Food Production Supervisor

 

Positions classified at this level have full supervisory responsibilities over positions classified as Cooks, Bakers, Ingredient Room Workers and Food Service Workers.  Positions also oversee the work of any institutional residents that assist in food service.

 

The primary responsibility is to assure that food is prepared and served on schedule and that the general cleaning and sanitation procedures are followed in the dietary area.
