SERIES CONCEPT

 

This series includes employees in positions that perform skilled trades work in two or more of the recognized building, maintenance or mechanical trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, heating/air conditioning, machinist, masonry, painting, plumbing and welding) and assist or supervise skilled trades workers in the performance of these duties.

 

EXCLUSIONS

 

Employees in positions that perform:

work in only one of the recognized building, maintenance and mechanical trades and for which a specific job class has been established.

·      

manual and semi-skilled grounds keeping duties.

 

CLASS DISTINCTIONS

 

Trades Helper

Employees in this class observe and assist skilled trades personnel by carrying, hauling and handling necessary materials, tools and equipment and, under the direction of the skilled trades person, may perform highly routine and repetitive aspects of the work.

 

Maintenance Repairer

Employees in this class perform skilled trades work at the journey or experienced level and operate with little technical direction in the performance of daily work assignments.  May provide limited technical direction to Trades Helpers or other employees.

 

Maintenance Repairs Supervisor

 

Employees in this class supervise skilled trades personnel in the performance of daily work activities. They make work assignments, evaluate job performance, authorize leave, schedule training, process grievances and explain/apply personnel and related polices/procedures.
