SERIES CONCEPT |
This
series includes those positions whose employees operate, maintain and repair
steam generating boilers/auxiliary systems, centralized air-conditioning
systems and electrical power generating systems.
EXCLUSIONS |
1.
Positions
whose primary duties are repair work in one of the recognized building and
mechanical trades (air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
2.
Positions
whose primary duties are to operate, maintain and repair water treatment or
sewage disposal systems not directly associated with the heating/power plant.
CLASS DISTINCTIONS |
Employees
in this class function at the entry or training level and learn to perform the
duties commonly associated with the Power Plant Engineering series. They have limited skill, or have not yet
demonstrated skill, in the performance of these duties and operate under close
supervision, always having an experienced engineer available to assist or
consult with on their assigned shift.
Employees
in this class perform journey level work and have demonstrated skill in the
performance of most duties associated with the Power Plant Engineering series,
except those involving the diagnosis and repair of power plant equipment.
Power Plant Engineer

Employees
in this class perform “advanced journey” level work and perform all duties
associated with the Power Plant Engineering series, including diagnosis and
repair of power plant equipment.
Employees
in this class perform “advanced journey” level work and have an assigned lead
work responsibility (i.e., instruct, answer questions and distribute/balance
the workload; accept, modify or reject completed work; maintain attendance
records; report infractions and provide input on staffing decision) over two or
more employees, volunteers, inmates or residents.
