SECTION 4.25  ADVERTISING

Last Update:  7/01

The Iowa Department of Administrative Services – Human Resources Enterprise (DAS-HRE) administers the "Coordinated Advertising Program" for the State in conjunction with the Des Moines Register.

This program allows the state department to save money by placing advertisements at a group rate.

If your department has a specific person who handles all advertising, please contact him/her with the information about the need to advertise and recruit.  That person will then work with their department's personnel officer or the Classified Advertising Coordinator at DAS-HRE.

Advertising for applicants may be accomplished in a variety of ways:

·         Local and state wide newspapers/shoppers

·         Out of state newspapers

·         Technical, Trade and/or Professional Journals

·         College and university placement offices

·         Alumni newsletters

·         Internet - variety of web sites - wide coverage that are position specific (generally lower cost than newspaper ads)

·         Flyers to community service organizations/churches

·         Minority media sources

·         Persons with Disabilities media sources

Discuss advertisement content with the Personnel Officer or the Advertisement Coordinator prior to the submission of the ad for publication.  Approval may be obtained from your personnel officer or the DAS-HRE Classified Advertisement Coordinator in advance (this includes Merit and Non-Merit/exempt covered job classifications).

Once the ad has been approved, please forward a copy of the ad to the Advertisement Coordinator at DAS-HRE - Fax (515) 281-7970.  Any changes to ad content after final approval must be cleared through the Personnel Officer or the Advertisement Coordinator.

·         Upon approval, the department representative may call the Des Moines Register or other publication to place the ad

·         The classified ad representative for the State of Iowa at the Des Moines Register can be contacted at (515) 284-8093

·         Provide the following billing information:

-  Department

-  Fund

-  Organization codes (available from your department)

·         The Des Moines Register will send the bill to DAS-HRE.

·         DAS-HRE will bill the department for the cost of the ad.
