The State of Iowa provides excellent retirement benefits for both active State employees and retirees. Review the links below to help you prepare for and take full advantage of your retirement benefits

Continuing Insurance Benefits at Retirement	At retirement At termination	An option to continue participation in the State of Iowa group health and dental plans for life plus the opportunity to convert the life insurance coverage after retirement. Benefits as a retiree are identical to benefits for the plan held as an active employee.
Deferred Compensation	Retirement Investors' Club (RIC)	A voluntary pretax retirement savings program. Employees participate through payroll deduction and direct contributions to a variety of investment options.
Health Insurance for Medicare-Eligible Retirees	Health Insurance for Medicare-Eligible Retirees	A program that allows you can continue your health coverage with the State of Iowa when you become eligible for Medicare.
IPERS	Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System	A defined benefit retirement plan designed to supplement Social Security benefits and private savings at retirement.
Sick Leave Insurance Program (SLIP)	Sick Leave Insurance Program	An option for eligible state employees to use all or part of their unused sick leave balance to pay the employer share of their health care premiums for a specified period.
